Throwing on the Potter's Wheel-Unique Surfaces, Mondays with Deb 6-8:30, 9/9 to 11/11 (10 sessions)

Join Deb at Baker Creek Ceramics for this advanced throwing class focusing on unique surfaces! Using forms you throw on the wheel, you will learn a variety of unique surface decorations including burnishing, horse hair, transfers and slip inlay. Finally, you will learn new glazing techniques. Class will meet Mondays 6 to 8:30 pm for 10 sessions (25 hours) and 5:30 to 6 pm on 11/18 to share the firing results and pick up your work. This is an advanced class, 6 months of throwing experience is recommended. Clay is $30 per bag (25 pounds). You can purchase clay on-line or the first day of class. Bring your pottery tools, some plastic to cover your work in progress, a small hand towel, dress for mess and be ready for some fun! 

Ages 16 and up. Class minimum 4/maximum 10 students.

Week 1: demo jars and bottles

Week 2: demo trimming

Week 3: demo burnishing

Week 4: demo slip, trim all work, add handles and get ready for first bisque firing

Week 5: glaze

Week 6: demo inlay and/or independent projects

Week 7: horse hair and/or independent projects

Week 8: independent projects, last night for wet work

Week 9: last night for trimming and carving

Week 10: final glaze night

Pick up work 11/18 from 5:30 to 6 pm

Beginning 9/20 there will be make-up sessions/open studio for enrolled students Friday afternoons and Saturday morning. You will get a class syllabus before your class begins with details.

Class, Cancellation & Refund Policy

Withdrawals and refunds – If Baker Creek Ceramics cancels a class students will receive a full refund. Students who withdraw two weeks or more prior to the first day of class will receive a full refund less a $25.00 processing fee. Students who withdraw fewer than two weeks prior to a class will not receive a refund.

Missed Classes – There are no discounts, refunds or make up sessions for missed classes. In the fall and winter, there are usually some open studio hours available for students who miss a class, but check on your specific class. There is no instruction during the make-up sessions.

Class Cancellation – All classes not meeting the minimum enrollment of 4 students one week prior to the start date may be cancelled.  Baker Creek Ceramics will contact students in affected class and offer refunds or placement in an additional class.

Disruptive Behavior - Baker Creek has the right to remove a student from a class if the student's behavior is offensive or disruptive to the class. 

Enrolled Students Only - Class instruction is for students enrolled in the class ONLY, no guests. 

Final Fired Ceramic Work - Your pieces will be fired within two weeks of your final glazing class session. Students will receive a list of pick up dates and times. Any student work left more than 60 days will be donated to the Dead Pot Society.
